How to activate and install your beacons

In situations where Locators are placed in areas with weak GPS satellite signals, particularly indoors, we can enhance zone position reporting by installing Beacon devices. These devices help improving accuracy in environments where GPS performance is limited.

Locators will display the Beacons position on the Map. To do so, Locators need to scan and detect Beacons Bluetooth signal.

If you have already ordered beacons from RecovR you will be able to see them inside your Location, in the "Beacons" menu. The Beacons are identified by their MAC address that is printed on them.

Please reach out RecovR Support in case you have ordered beacons but you don't see them yet in the Beacons menu.

To install a beacon, first, you'll need to activate the beacon then chose it's installation spot.

Step 1: Activate the Beacon

  • Open the beacon by rotating the lid counter-clockwise

  • Press the β€œpush button” and hold for 3 seconds

  • When the beacon is powered on you will see a blue light for 5 seconds (a blinking blue light means that the Beacon is powering off)

  • Then close the beacon by rotating the lid clockwise

Step 2: Install the Beacon

Next, you'll pick an ideal spot to install the beacon in your indoor location. The beacon signal covers approximately 50 sqft. When choosing a spot, you'll want to ensure that the beacon has no physical objects around interrupting its Bluetooth signal.

  • Recommended vertical height of beacon: 6.5 feet

  • Minimum distance between beacons: 65 feet

  • Place the beacon far from wireless routers or similar Bluetooth devices. This can interrupt the Bluetooth signal of the beacon

Step 3: Assign the Beacon to an Indoor Geofence area or Zone

If you have not created your indoor Geofences or Zones, please do so, before moving on to this step. Indoor zones are represented in green color on the map.

Once you've created your zones, you'll want to assign beacons to your indoor zones. To do this, select a beacon and edit it to assign it to the indoor zone where it is physically installed. Or select the "pencil" tool and directly assign a zone from the list.

You can move the beacon position in the map, by simply selecting the icon of the desired beacon first, then doing right-click on the map in the desired new position inside an indoor geofence or zone and selecting the option "move beacon to here".
